We had previously reported the rumor that Google was planning an Echo Dot-like version of their Google Home device, and it looks like that it may indeed be coming soon.
Droid Life has the first photos and details of the device; it will officially be called the Google Home Mini, and it will indeed be announced at Google’s Oct 4th event. And perhaps most importantly, the device will cost $49 – the same price as Amazon’s Echo Dot. It will also come in three colors (compared to Echo Dot’s black and white options): chalk, charcoal and coral.
The three dot’s that adorn the top of the device are likely the notification lights similar to the original Google Home, and droid life notes that the images clearly show that the device will be hardwired and will not have a wireless power option (which puts it in line with Amazon’s Echo line and the original Google Home).
One thing that we find intriguing about all this is that if this all pans out, the new Google Home Mini will now be a low-cost home phone option, thanks to Google recently enabling phone calls to any phone number with the Google Home.
Considering many people still pay $30 a month or so for a landline home phone, this may be one of the many reasons this device may fly off store shelves. We’ll know for sure on October 4th.
